How to install Windows 10/11 on a Chromebook

Developer Mode & Partition

Press Esc + Refresh + Power
Press Ctrl + D and press Enter to enable developer mode
Press Ctrl + D to boot Chrome OS
Open a tab and press Ctrl + Alt + T
Type in "shell" and press Enter.

Paste the following into the shell and press enter

curl https://chrx.org/ | sudo tar xzfC - /usr/local && chrx

Follow the instructions to allocate storage space for Windows (Do not run chrx a second time to install Linux).

Update RW_LEGACY & Setup UEFI

If you haven't rebooted already after partitioning with chrx, reboot and press Ctrl + D to let Chrome OS repair itself.
Press Ctrl + D to boot Chrome OS
Open a tab and press Ctrl + Alt + T
Type in "shell" and press Enter.

Paste the following into the shell and press enter

cd; curl -LO mrchromebox.tech/firmware-util.sh && sudo bash firmware-util.sh

Select "RW_LEGACY" from the options.

Paste the following into the shell and press enter

cd; curl -LO https://coolstar.org/chromebook/windows-rwl/install-rwl.sh; sudo bash install-rwl.sh

Follow the instructions to set up your partition for Windows and install OpenCore with patches

Developer Mode & Flash Firmware

Turn off your device, open the back and bridge the Write Protect Jumper.
Press Esc + Refresh + Power
Press Ctrl + D and press Enter to enable developer mode
Press Ctrl + D to boot Chrome OS
Open a tab and press Ctrl + Alt + T
Type in "shell" and press Enter.

Paste the following into the shell and press enter

cd; curl -LO mrchromebox.tech/firmware-util.sh && sudo bash firmware-util.sh

Select "Full UEFI Firmware" from the options.

Developer Mode & Flash Firmware

Turn off your device, open the back and remove the Write Protect Screw.
Press Esc + Refresh + Power
Press Ctrl + D and press Enter to enable developer mode
Press Ctrl + D to boot Chrome OS
Open a tab and press Ctrl + Alt + T
Type in "shell" and press Enter.

Paste the following into the shell and press enter

cd; curl -LO mrchromebox.tech/firmware-util.sh && sudo bash firmware-util.sh

Select "Full UEFI Firmware" from the options.

Turn off your device, open the back and disconnect the battery.
Press Esc + Refresh + Power
Press Ctrl + D and press Enter to enable developer mode
Press Ctrl + D to boot Chrome OS
Press Ctrl + Alt + F2 (2nd button to the right of esc) to enter a shell

Paste the following into the shell and press enter

cd; curl -LO mrchromebox.tech/firmware-util.sh && sudo bash firmware-util.sh

Select "Full UEFI Firmware" from the options.
After successful flashing, turn off your device, open the back and connect the battery.

Developer Mode & Flash Firmware

Press Ctrl + D to boot Chrome OS

Select "Full UEFI Firmware" from the options.

Press the following into the shell and press enter

sudo gsctool -a -o
```
Follow the instructions (PP button = power button) to open CCD
After your device reboots, press Esc + Refresh + Power
Press Ctrl + D and press Enter to enable developer mode
Press Ctrl + D to boot Chrome OS
Press Ctrl + Alt + F2 (2nd button to the right of esc) to enter a shell
Paste the following into the shell and press enter

sudo gsctool -a -I AllowUnverifiedRo:always
```
Paste the following into the shell and press enter
```
sudo gsctool -a -w disable
```

Paste the following into the shell and press enter

cd; curl -LO mrchromebox.tech/firmware-util.sh && sudo bash firmware-util.sh

Select "Full UEFI Firmware" from the options.

Update Firmware

Note: Does not need to be done if you just flashed firmware from Chrome OS or Linux! To Update Firmware from Inside Windows, you may use this tool: Download: Link

Install Windows from USB

On another computer, create a Windows 10 installer with Rufus as "GPT for UEFI"
Plug the USB Drive into the chromebook
Plug a USB keyboard or mouse in for installation
Turn on the chromebook, and let it boot the USB drive

Note: If you need to select a different boot device, press any key in "Select Boot Option". Then select "Boot Manager" to select your boot drive.

Install Windows from USB

On another computer, create a Windows 10 or 11 installer with Rufus as "GPT for UEFI"
Plug the USB Drive into the chromebook
Plug a USB keyboard or mouse in for installation
Turn on the chromebook, and let it boot the USB drive

Note: If you need to select a different boot device, press any key in "Select Boot Option". Then select "Boot Manager" to select your boot drive.

Install Windows from USB

On another computer, create a Windows 11 installer with Rufus as "GPT for UEFI"
Plug the USB Drive into the chromebook
Plug a USB keyboard or mouse in for installation
Turn on the chromebook, and let it boot the USB drive

Note: If you need to select a different boot device, press any key in "Select Boot Option". Then select "Boot Manager" to select your boot drive.

Install Windows from USB

On another computer, create a Windows 10 or 11 installer with Rufus as "GPT for UEFI"
Plug the USB Drive into the chromebook
Plug a USB keyboard or mouse in for installation
Turn on the chromebook, and let it boot the USB drive

Note: If you need to select a different boot device, select it in rEFInd. Do not press esc on "Select Boot Option" as OpenCore must run patches on boot first.

Bypass Windows 11 installation check

At the Windows installer, press Shift + F10 (Volume Up) to open command prompt
Type in "regedit" and press enter
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup
Right click setup and create a new Key called "LabConfig"
Right click LabConfig and create new DWORD (32 bit) called "BypassSecureBootCheck" and set it to 1
Right click LabConfig and create new DWORD (32 bit) called "BypassTPMCheck" and set it to 1
Close regedit and command prompt and proceed with installation normally

Note: This step is not required for Windows 10.

Install Visual C++ Redistributable

Simply run the installer to install the libraries.
Note: Several drivers listed below require this to be installed to work properly.

Install CR50 (I2C/SPI) TPM Driver

Simply run the installer to install the driver.
Note: If you are booting with RW_LEGACY, you MUST install this driver for working sleep/wake

Install Chrome EC Driver

Simply run the installer to install the driver.

Wilco Keyboard

The Chrome EC drivers contain remappings for your chromebook.

The top row on your keyboard (aside from Esc, and the lock button) by default does F1 through F12

Install Bayhub eMMC Driver (Windows 10)

Windows 10 users will need to use NTLite to slipstream this driver into the ISO before formatting the USB drive (to both boot.wim and install.wim)

Enable Testsigning

Open Command Prompt as Administrator
Type in the following command:

Simply run the installer to install the driver.

Then open Command Prompt or PowerShell and enter the following command and press enter:

Powershell -ExecutionPolicy bypass -file .\Downloads\autoinstall-intel.ps1

Wait for the auto-installer to detect and install chipset drivers

Make sure to download version 21.5.2! But don't install yet!

Download Patch: Link
Double click the exe and click the first install (with destination folder). But Don't click install on any further installation wizards.
Wait for the driver to extract

Extract and copy the patched amdkmdag.sys to

C:\AMD\Radeon-Software-Adrenalin-2020-21.5.2-Win10-64Bit-LegacyASICs-June21-LEGACY\Packages\Drivers\Display\WT6A_INF\B367348\amdkmdag.sys

Proceed with the driver installation. Windows may ask you about installing an unsigned driver. Click "Allow"
Reboot. So long as testsigning is enabled, GPU should work and start immediately

Install AMD Vega GPU Driver

Note: There is a bug that causes high CPU usage. To fix it, go to C:\Windows\System32 and rename clinfo.exe to clinfo2.exe

Set UTC Time

Search for and run "regedit"
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\TimeZoneInformation
Right click TimeZoneInformation and create new DWORD (32 bit) called "RealTimeIsUniversal" and set it to 1
Reboot Windows

Note: This step is required to keep the clock in sync when dual booting Windows and Chrome OS

Compress Installation

To free up storage, compress Windows 10 / 11 by running the following in an Admin Command Prompt:

compact.exe /compactos:always
